The Now Show has officially started and so the award winners of all our prestigious prizes are out in the open. Of course we cannot wait to share.

Lucasprijs
Jerrold Saija, who graduated in Art & Research at the St. Joost School of Art & Design in ‘s-Hertogenbosch, has been announced the winner of the Lucasprijs 2021. Jerrold will receive a cash prize of €2,500. The municipality of ‘s-Hertogenbosch sponsors the prize every year for the best work of the Bossche graduates of St. Joost. Jerrold Saija, graduated with the project ‘Nails without heads‘. The jury praised Jerrold for his conceptually strong work with idiosyncratic visual language and use of different techniques. JBZ Award 2021
For the ninth time, the Jeroen Bosch Hospital (JBZ) presents the JBZ Award, a prize for an emerging visual talent, which is made possible by the Board of Directors of the JBZ. The prize is awarded in view of artistic qualities and attention that are important in the context of a care; the work must be sparkling, captivating and human. The winner is: Mackenzie Fincham! Mackenzie graduated with her project Waan(beeld), a short animation in which a girl experiences a fear. The jury praises Mackenzie for her thoughtful way of shooting. St. Joostpenning
Sonia Commandeur, who graduated in Photography, Film & the Digital has been declared the winner of the St. Joostpenning 2021. Sonia will receive a cash prize of €2,500 and a medal. The municipality of Breda makes this prize available every year for the best work of the graduates of St. Joost Breda. Sonia Commandeur graduated with the film Donna. The jury praised Sonia’s work for the outspoken form and professional way in which the film was made. Read more about the prize and the jury report here. Van Gogh AIR
The Van Gogh AiR selected Joey Sepers, aka Joey Monopoly, who graduated from the Art & Research study as the lucky winner. Joey Sepers, alias Joey Monopoly, graduated from the Art & Research study in Breda, has been declared the winner of the fourth edition of the Van Gogh AiR 2021. Joey can stay for a month as an ‘artist-in-residence’ in the guest studio next to the old sexton’s house from Van Gogh’s time. He will also receive a cash prize of €600 and a material allowance. Afterwards, Joey will exhibit in the Van GoghGalerie. Joey was selected from nine applications, which were judged on the quality of the work and the suitability to participate in the residency in Zundert. Affinity with Van Gogh and the place, as well as intention for the interpretation of the working period played a role in this. Read more about the prize and the jury report here. AIR De Missie
This year, the new AIR De Mission goes to Simone Eldering, who also graduated in Art & Research. Both are allowed a month in residence to create new work. Simone Eldering, who graduated from the Art & Research study in Den Bosch, can work and live for a month as the winner of the AIR De Mission in Park Zuiderhout’s Mission House in Teteringen. This new prize was made available to students of St. Joost for the first time this year. AIR De Missie gives artists and designers of all disciplines the opportunity to explore the meaning of religion, meaning or spirituality in our contemporary society in contact with the residents of Park Zuiderhout. The prize consists of a residency in September, a working budget of €1000 and materials costs €500 and a final presentation at Park Zuiderhout.
