You can be who you want, but don’t forget to take care of your home, your kids, your husband and you need to look good.

Tradition and religion contribute to a system that supports patriarchy. This system causes our identity and role to be predetermined by our gender. Women are often seen as the subservient sex, and it appears as though men can get whatever they want in life. We unconsciously repeat the patterns.

I personally experienced gender inequality when I became a mother. The external expectations on me were beyond my capabilities. Expectations? Specific Expectations! Where did they come from? How is it possible that everyone around me knows them and repeats them?

During this project, I investigated the influence of religion and tradition on the relationship between men and women. There is no equality there. As a woman, I view this with disagreement, sadness, and anger.

When I was a child, I was told I could be who I wanted to be. As a woman, can I be who I want to be? And if so, at what cost?

Can we escape these patterns?
