Spotlight on Street Furniture

You see them everywhere in The Netherlands: the waste bin Capitole, the Industria 2000 lamppost and the well-known park bench, which has many names and shapes. They are always there for us when we need them, and we take them for granted, but do we appreciate them enough and do we even notice them any more?

In this research, I investigate how the appreciation of street furniture can grow even further after the COVID-19 pandemic, in which the appreciation for the public space has increased; how we can thank the furniture for their presence and endless loyalty to us.

With a thought-provoking risograph poster campaign, placed on several billboards in ’s-Hertogenbosch, combined with a fanzine attached to various park benches, I temporarily place the street furniture in the spotlight. To thank them, and to call on the users and passers-by to do the same.
