A House is Not a Home (Wat Thuis Thuis Maakt)
A House is Not a Home is a short documentary film. Filmmaker Ruben Groetelaars embarks on a search to discover where his sense of belonging originates from. Inspired by Bill Nichols’ conceptual documentary scheme, he chooses to capture this search in the performative mode. He leaves his safe home environment to live in an old truck for a week.
During this time he tries to reflect on his own experience away from home, but also meets other people who have interesting perspectives of their homes and living situation. Ruben learns new things about himself, and eventually finds the answer to his question in an unexpected place.
